Congratulations to the following students for their proficiency: Jessica Chancey-Flute Lauren Anderson-Flute Sameer Bhatia-Oboe Rachel Read-Clarinet Jerome Hall-Clarinet Alex Wright-Contra-Clarinet Louis DiPaolo-Percussion Quarter Days: The Marching Rams have to raise tens of thousands of dollars each year to fully fund the program. This is in addition to the money given to us by the school. Our next fundraiser is Quarter Days.("A quarter for a quarter note.") On Super Bowl weekend, Fri-Sun Feb 3-5, students will accept donations outside local grocery stores (Publix, Winn-Dixie, WalMart, Sam's). We will be playing CDs of our music performances. 35 shifts are available, every Marching Ram is expected to participate. This money is for the general fund. Signups are in the band room. One chaperone is needed for each shift. Parents, select your shift here. Let's get those show shirts washed and ready to raise money for the Marching Rams! Next competition: Weekend of February 18. Staying warm on the Band trip: If you do not have heavy winter wear, this is a good time to buy winter items on clearance. Average temperatures in New York in March will be 50-35 degrees. The students will be spending significant time outdoors, so it is essential that they have enough warm clothing. You will hear more about this at the mandatory trip meeting on Feb 16. Students should wear three layers -- a full-sleeve undershirt as a base layer, a sweater/fleece jacket and an outer jacket/parka. They can remove the outerjacket when indoors. Thermal longjohns under jeans will be very important -- just one layer of jeans will not be enough. You will also need the following: gloves (Thinsulate), hat/balaclava, scarf, long thick socks, shoes that can be worn with thick socks. There are several brands of inexpensive thermals available, ranging from $7 - $15 each. Try Kohls and Penney's online (Cuddl Duds for women), WalMart, Sports Authority clearance. Some of these items will not be available locally in March, but are on sale now. And don't forget the base layer --a long-sleeved henley-type shirt or turtleneck (WalMart, $6 each), one for each day of the trip! New Booster Board members wanted: In February, the Booster Board will be be forming a Nominating Committee to recommend parents for the new Booster Board. All parents are eligible and welcome. All you need is a desire to support the Marching Rams. There is one monthly booster meeting, in addition to the time spent working on your board position. There will be several openings, and we urge you to consider if YOU can help. The current board is listed on the Contact Us page. You are welcome to explore job descriptions with the current board members. Next month, we will list the open positions and announce the Nominating Committee. The new board takes office at the May Booster meeting. Dividends, please catch up on logging your hours: LMHS needs your hours for earning the Golden School award. If you have put in ANY Dividend hours at home (buying water, mending uniforms, working on fundraisers etc) or have not logged in any chaperone hours, please log in here to bring your records up to date. Macy's Parade at Universal Studios: Video of our band in the parade. What a fun day! Results of the Marching Performance Assessment in DeLand
