Fundraisers
Current fundraiser: Quarter Days, Feb. 3 - 5.

The following locations have been confirmed. Students will stand outside the store in 2-hr shifts. A boombox of band tunes will be playing in the background, and students will accept donations from smiling shoppers.

There are 35 shifts, so there is at least one convenient time for every Marching Rams to sign up. Sign-up sheets are in the band room.

One chaperone is required for each shift -- we can't do it without you! To sign up for your shift, please email Gayle Anderson

Why do we need to fundraise and how is the money used?
The band program spends money throughout the year --

  • Providing dinner to the Marching Rams during band camp
  • Having guest clinicians during band camp
  • Buying rights to the music that we play during marching season and concert season
  • Renting a moving van for each away game, paying for tolls and gasoline
  • Dry cleaning all marching uniforms several times a year
  • Dry cleaning tuxes and gowns during concert season
  • Entry fees to festivals
  • Maintaining school-owned instruments
  • Renting a hall for Band Banquet and catering.

The school gives us a certain amount every year but we typically need to raise an additional $55,000 per year to cover the Band's expenses. To pay these bills, the Band raises funds throughout the year -- e.g.
  • Band dues
  • Silent auction during the Prism concert
  • Working in the concession stands (we receive a percentage of the profits from the Lake Mary HS Boosters)
  • Selling  Apples, Honey Baked Ham Certificates, Candy Sales, Cookie Dough sales
  • Quarter Days
  • Band DVD sales
Winners of Entertainment Books fundraiser: Congratulations to the following students who were the top-sellers. They raised their entire annual Fair Share (or more!) through this fundraiser:

1st Place - Sydney Gill - sold 22 books - won a $100 Target gift card.
3-way tie for 2nd - Sameer Bhatia, Jamie Johnston & Brandon Wakil - each sold 12 books - each won a $75 Target gift card
.

Band is an optional activity, and by signing up for band you are committing to paying your "Fair Share" for the program.

Lots of ways to earn money:   We do not want anyone to drop out of band because they cannot pay their dues. Throughout the school year, the Boosters organize several fundraisers. A couple are mandatory and the funds go directly to the band. The rest are voluntary, and all funds are deposited directly into the student's account. After the first Fair Share  payment, many students raise the rest of their balance through fundraisers -- no more checks from mom or dad!

Please contact Mr. Mitchell for a private consultation if you have any issues meeting your financial obligation.

Schedule of
 fundraisers:
July: Entertainment Books.

Sept – Oct: Apple Sales: Mandatory fundraiser. On two Saturdays, we meet in the band room, divide up into groups and  are assigned local neighborhoods. We then go door-to-door in those neighborhoods taking pre-orders for apples. When the apples arrive, we deliver the bags of apples to the residents.

Oct – Nov: Christmas Tree, Wreath and Poinsettia Sale.

Nov - Dec: Holiday Gift Wrapping at the Walmart on Rinehart in Sanford from noon - 4 pm on the Saturdays between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

December: Silent Auction: During the Winter Band Concert, the lobby is lined up with items you can bid on. This is one of the band's most successful annual fundraisers. Please start putting aside items at home now -- re-gift them to the band! We will also be soliciting coupons from local services, from spas to oil changes to computer checkups. Perhaps your business can donate a service to the band!

Jan – Feb: Quarter Days. "A quarter for a quarter-note." We stand outside Publix/Walmart and play music, people give us quarters and $100 bills :-)

Feb – Mar: Candy Sales. Students sell bars of candy. Sold in a flash to hungry, sugar-deprived high schoolers in the halls! The student takes the box of candy and sells all of it. Unsold candy cannot be returned.

Mar – Apr: Cookie Dough Sales
