Our Leadership Camp Experience I think I speak for all of us who attended the camp when I say that it was an amazing experience. We made lots of friends and met leadership from other schools. Each day we were woken up at 7 AM (Kyra and I enjoyed that immensely.) After breakfast, we would head out to Chiefs Field for teaching and leadership fundamentals. For the next 3 hours we would march, teach, and learn communication skills on the hot, turf field. Then came lunch! As you can imagine, this was one of our favorite parts of the day. The evening master class was split into two groups, the conductors and non-conductors. So Daniel Sheres (Band captain) went to learn leadership fundamentals, while Kyra Nickell (Head Drum Major), Daniel Anderson (who was there just for the experience ;) ), and I (Assistant Drum Major) learned more conducting techniques such as cues, dynamics, and posture. At the end of the week we all participated in the final performance called Pass and Review. Kyra and I started preparing our selection for Pass and Review in early June. We chose to conduct the song One More Time Chuck Corea. We practiced almost everyday and by the time we auditioned we were pretty snazzy (if I do say so myself.) This experience was such a blessing and I am very excited to go back next year!! :) |
